Part Time Business Opportunity: How to Go Big in Your Spare Time
I want to add a few thoughts on Going Big for a part time business opportunity. Many part timers think that it's easy to succeed big when you can work full time. But in reality, being part time has some great benefits. You probably already have a job, so success isn't a do or die proposition. And contrary to what many people tell you, stress doesn't always make success. Most of the time, stress just makes you tired and further behind. Let's take a quick look at what it takes to succeed in a part time business opportunity, with a few major points.
1. Part Time Still Requires Time
Even part time means some time. You have to devote time to making it work, and working in your business. I have a couple of pointers on how to do this.- Plan to work on your business. Make a commitment to yourself and your business that you will spend the time necessary to work.- Plan to work on yourself. If you don't get better, you may never earn much.- Expect your work to take twice as long as you expect. I have a friend who plans on 4 times as long!
2. Focus!
Every successful person focuses, and you must, too! Your part time business opportunity will require that you focus. Spend your time on productive activities. For example, you could go to meetings constantly just to hear the speakers and see successful people, or you could take a guest. You can shuffle business cards. You can make brainstorm yet another way to find leads – like talking to people in line at the bank, maybe – or you can get started doing what you already know. Guess which one produces more results? Get to work. Figure out what produces real results for you, and do it more. Automate it if you can. And get better at it.
3. Money
In a part time business, money can be a huge stumbling block. You probably got into the business to make money, right? Right at the beginning, though, you may need to feed your business for a while until it starts producing.I can't tell you the exact amount, but I can say you will need some. I started with several hundred to see me through several months of part time work, and it paid off. At the same time, if money is tight, see what you can do yourself. Make your money stretch. For example, recently I heard about someone who wanted to start a restaurant. They were counseled to start a part time catering business first. Then, when the business produces real profit, and regular clients, expand into a restaurant. Look for places you can get the money to start. Sell your extra stuff. Babysit. Mow lawns. Sell your gold earrings. Get a part time job just to get the money to start. And look for good ways to stretch that money.
4. Most Important: Persistence
Far more important than any of the above, keep trying. Never give up trying. If you have a business that fails, so what? Try again, or try a new concept. And if you don't progress as fast as you want, try something new, but keep trying until you figure it out. Being persistent will see you through rough spots. Believe in yourself, and learn from others. Build at least a basic network of support to help you get the positive reinforcement you need to keep working. You can succeed.
A Quick Story
You've heard of Jay Leno. How did he succeed? You might think that he just got up and told a few jokes. In fact, Jay would wait in line at clubs on open mike night for a chance. Sometimes, he would be there all night, waiting to do 5 minutes of his best stuff. 5 minutes? Sounds a lot like a part time opportunity. This went on for years before he got a real gig. And then little gigs went on for years more before he became famous and popular. Don't sell yourself short. You can succeed. You can start with a part time business opportunity, and you can persist until you reach your goals and beyond.
