The Guidelines
1. Leads - Use with Care
What a big subject. You can get tons of kinds of network marketing prospects, from plenty of sources. What do you know about the leads? Do you keep track of your success? Can you build a big MLM business with leads? Many people have gone broke searching for these answers. When it comes to leads, you have to know how they were collected, and the age. I would also say you need to know how many times the list has been sold or called, especially network marketing prospects, but few sellers will tell you that one. If you plan to use leads, you must keep track of your success rate, and you must test the list. These two tactics alone will help you keep from going bust on so-called great leads. With a good list and good test results, you can do great things with a leads list. You can be very efficient if you start with mailing, if you can write copy or hire it out.
2. Don’t Blurt
Have you heard the phrase: When in doubt, Blurt it out? It doesn’t apply in all cases, and especially not with network marketing prospects. You need to use some finesse, and know what to tell your prospect. If you approach everyone you know with a lousy method, you just burned your whole list, right? You can do this: call all those people and blurt out everything you know about your new network marketing business selling flingabadinga juice from deepest darkest Canada, with incredible quantities of amino-bio-flavi-rificness. Great. Your grandma just asked you not to come to her birthday party. Or, you can tell them what it will do for them, because it helped you. You can ask if they know anyone that might benefit. Never mention the flingabadinga juice, or the Canadian jungles and witchdoctors. And when they say no, you move on. You can also ask if they know anyone who might need to earn a few more dollars a month, like you are. If they say no, then you have likely kept a friend and avoided a debacle. Don’t be surprised when they say yes to these methods. Much lower key than blurting. This method works better than blurting and is more efficient than knocking on doors or stopping people at random, but it also not terribly efficient. Take a look at number 5 for a higher efficiency.
3. Get Real Leads
This title is a double entendre. Get real about how you find leads. Give this some thought: do you want to spend every day wandering the grocery store and mall attempting to bump into people so you can nonchalantly bring up your product or opportunity? You can do this, and you can find some people and recruit a few. This method comes very close to knocking on doors to find your customers and recruits. It works, yes, but not very efficiently. How many people will you have to talk to at the mall or grocery store to fill up your organization? See number 5 for another way to do it.
4. Don’t Chase
Don’t pound on people to sign up when they aren’t interestedSimilar to the one above, don’t continuously call back and tell them they don’t know what they are missing. They will get tired of you calling. You will get tired of your business.Typically people who do this don’t have anyone else to call, so they call the same people over and over…and make friends into enemies. Regardless of how much you think a person needs what you have to offer. If you only have a few leads, something is wrong anyway. You need to spend time building a lead machine – a plan that will bring you all the network marketing prospects you can handle. Through advertising, giving away free items (like offering a free lunch in exchange for a business card), and many other ideas, you can build an mlm lead machine, a real marketing plan that will provide you with the business you need to build your business.
5. Draw People to You
Instead of going out asking each person you know or meet, what if you could just let people come to you if they were interested? Several advertising methods give you this advantage. You can put an ad in a national magazine, or one specifically for the network marketing business. You can advertise in your local paper in the help wanted section – be careful of all the other ads trying to attract network marketing prospects, by the way. Or set up a website and give your visitors a way to email you. You can send out a mailing, like in #1 above. Some people paint ads on the window of their car. These methods allow you to avoid the manual sifting, and give you greater efficiency. You don’t have to talk to each person. They review your info, and then contact you. You want to draw people to you, to give them a reason to contact you and see what you have to offer. No chasing, less sifting, very efficient.
6. Divide and Conquer
Split up how you present into 3 pieces. I include this guideline since so many people misunderstand how to sell. Think about this. When you watch TV, does every ad blatantly say “buy this product”? Or do commercials instead show how the product will improve your life, make you more attractive, happier, healthier, and lower your stress?Try this idea on for size. Instead of asking your network marketing prospects to buy a product, try showing them what it can do. Give them a reason to see themselves using it, not just a product name. And for recruiting, give your prospect a view of the benefits of the business. Offer a peek at a better lifestyle. More money, more time off, or more freedom. Then, after they want something you have, tell them about the product.
Action Speaks Volumes
Try out these guidelines to improve your network marketing prospects. They work if you do. Think them through and look for opportunities to use them.
