Just today, I was listening to a Brian Tracy CD and he said that if you can get yourself to do what you need to do to be successful even when you don't want to do it, you will be a huge success. Great advice. Sometimes it looks like your traffic will be low, or that the marketing efforts you just made won't pay off. Don't worry too much, just keep working and providing value. I mention it because it made me ask myself, is the future of home based business good or bad? If the economy has more problems - or even the same problems - does that make it a good idea or a bad idea to start a home based business? I think it makes it a great idea. With a business of your own, you control more of your own future. If you decide to expand, you just do it. Also, a home based business gives you the option to leverage your time. You can use your time to build yourself a business that pays you. Yes, you may have to work for yourself for peanuts for a while, but you have the freedom to do that when you work for yourself. Think about it. It could save your financial future to build a home based business now. What is a Tribe? Do you need one?Lately you may have seen some talk about tribes. I'll tell you a little about them and how they work. Later I hope to come back and explain it more, but this will give you the basics. First, a tribe is an online name for a group of people with a mutual agreement or a beneficial relationship. Sort of a you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours type of arrangement. The foundation of this idea stems from the importance of links on the internet. The internet is mainly 2 things: Content and links. If you want people to see your content, then you've got to get serious links. And that goes for the next marketer just as much as for you. A tribe offers a shortcut to developing links for your content. You join a tribe so that when another member of the tribe needs links, all the other tribesmen and women can give one. Including you - you post the link on some favorite lists, for example. Then, when you need a link, they will all give you one as well. See the power of the tribe? If you have a good tribe, then you have lots of links - and tons of traffic. Building a tribe is a good thing. Mike has set up a new membership program, with a monthly subscription. The initial offer is a jump drive with content from a bunch of others in the industry. I received 3 announcements - no, 5. I am on Mike's list, Betternetworker, Johnathan Budd and a couple of other MLM lists. So I got a ton of email when Dillard launched. And then the second wave, and the last chance... I even tried to sign up, but the servers must have been jammed - it wouldn't let me buy. Bummer. My point here, since I am not an affiliate, is that Dillard did what he does so well: created another funded proposal. In this case, I think it might be a loss leader, and it is a big JV with others in the industry. Still, if you get a chance to look into it, it looks interesting. Set one of your own up! MLM People and Their 7 Heavenly VirtuesMLM people get a bad rap. Learn what's good about them here. It's called upillar.com, and it's growing in popularity. You can place all the ads you want on the site for free. Their traffic has been growing steadily, so you should see some traffic from this source. I looked at a few categories for the best place to put an ad. Looks like the jobs sections would fit for a business opportunity/MLM ad, but take a look yourself to see what you find. You can use free classified ads to advertise a funded proposal, to send traffic to your site, or to a squeeze page. Use your imagination, and get some more leads. Funded Proposals: How Many Can You Find?Mike Dillard more or less made funded proposals common knowledge a few years ago. It got me thinking - who else uses this concept? So I started looking to see how many I could find. I won't give you a number - I'm not talking about just MLM here, I'm looking at all kinds of businesses. But I will point out a few to get your mind going. I've found funded proposals all around me.
The Most Obvious Think about it. You watch TV, advertisers pay for time on a show - free to you - to sell more of their products. But from the point of view of the TV show owners and actors, it's a little like a funded proposal. The production company sells the show, we watch for free or nearly free, advertisers pay for the show. The production company has paid for the show. They can now sell it overseas, sell reruns in syndication, and spin off other products, like Hanna Montana clothing. Or, look at radio. Radio talk shows hosts - whether you agree with them or not - sell their shows for advertising money, and they also provide other products. They sell newsletters, personal appearances, books, and so on. Not bad for a show that has already been paid for, right?
The Most Common Think about it. Grocery stores have called these loss leaders, but the principle is the same as a funded proposal. You come in and buy a gallon of milk which at least pays for the milk (or may have a small loss), while they get more traffic. And in the case of groceries, you probably buy bread and a few other things at the same time.
The Glam Version You buy a ticket, and yes, the band makes money and so does the venue and the ticket seller. But while you are there, you might buy more stuff. You can get shirts, recordings, whatever they have for sale. And in a year, you can get a new on-tour recording. And the manager usually also sells advertising at the stadium as well. Not bad, since the tickets cover all the costs. So next Time you see an offer, look at how many other ways the owner can use it to make a living. It might just be a funded proposal in disguise. The Law of Attraction: Your Internal Guidance SystemI found this law of attraction series of videos tonight while I was surfing on Youtube. To me, attitude determines a great deal. If you set out to achieve, you usually will. That's true in MLM or just about anywhere. Take a look, and learn about your internal guidance system for the law of attraction. The Do More MLM Success StrategyNeed a boost? Ever heard of the Do More MLM Success Strategy? I'll explain. Have you noticed that people who really make it big often have something in common: They work a lot! Profound, right? You remember Michael Phelps, the Olympian? He swims so fast and wins so much people think he's part fish! When he trains hard, he will swim and work out for 5 hours a day. I read that a fan commented to a concert pianist, "I would give anything to play like that." The pianist answered that the fan could play like that if she would just practice 3 hours a day for 10-15 years. The fan decided she didn't want to play like a concert pianist after all.
Now You Choose Few people will be able to compete with you on skill in TV watching or playing Halo. But is that the skill you want to acquire? Will that bring you the success you want? If not, try what the professionals have done for centuries. Work more. Get better, and work some more. You don't have to become a workaholic to see success. You do have to be dedicated and commit to working and improving. Ever heard of Jerry Clark? He's a very successful MLMer, who has this characteristic - he works long and hard. Look him up - and keep working. You can do it with the Do More MLM Success Strategy. Seth GodinHere's a quick thought: have you ever heard of Seth Godin? I quoted him just this evening talking marketing with my business partner...okay, my wife - one and the same. I was explaining what the term meatball sundae means. Who coined that term? Seth Godin. He has got to be one of the greatest marketers of all time, and I aspire to someday succeed as he has succeeded, while keeping my hair. Seriously, check out some of his books - he's written about 10, and I own several. I am reading Free Prize Inside, and it's fantastic. Meatball Sundae is another, as is Purple Cow. Take a minute to get familiar with some of these, and pick out one to start reading. Seth focuses in on how to succeed in business. Look at what makes your business grow, what makes your home-based business successful. Focus in on the top 3-5 things, and get going. You know you can get MLM training at a substantial discount. If not, read a few days back on my blog and you'll get the scoop. I added a part three because so many don't understand the power of this strategy for YOUR benefit. I'll explain. When you get a great deal at eBay or wherever, you get the training and your MLM business prospers, right? Hopefully you learn some great information and you use it. But what then? Then, you sell it on eBay or wherever and buy another one! The power of this is hard to underestimate for tangible systems you can buy and sell. You can put in a few dollars, say $50 or $100, but a cool system, absorb it, take notes, and sell it. You now have much or all of your initial investment back, and you can repeat the same deal with another cool training. It's a great way to learn new information, and only spend a little to keep it going. Give it a try - learning something new in MLM training should only help your business. Good luck! Here's a list of great places to look for MLM training packages and other things as well: Craigslist.com - the other massive clean-out-your-garage site. You may find stuff you want locally, too. Amazon.com - excellent for books, CD's, DVD's. BN.com - this is Barnes and Noble's site, and it also has a sell your stuff option like Amazon. Alibris.com - Made up of used bookstores and similar places. Last, our local TV/radio stations have free classifieds. They are great. Check yours. That's it. Where to Get Awesome Discounts on MLM Training ProductsIn case you wanted one of the big MLM training products, I have a tip for you. I'm thinking of products like Traffic Formula, Black Belt Recruiting, and the like. So you've seen the sales pages, you want to get one. And here's the tip - it's not so new, but it works really well: Look for your favorite MLM training product on eBay. I like to set up an email alert. You log in, go to my eBay, do a search, then click the save search button. A few days ago, I saw a huge discount on some great packages. And when I'm ready to get rid of my older MLM training packages, I'll put them on there as well. Go take a look. Building a list of leads or a flood of traffic doesn't usually happen as a flood, but a trickle that gains momentum. And even when you have a huge list, you still generate leads one name at a time. In this post, she writes about how she tried system after system, and never reached her goals. It's a great little reminder of why you joined this industry, and your opportunity in particular. I'll be it was because you could earn great income working with great people and in a fun industry, or something similar. I know I have been down a similar path, and because of it I decided to take a break from MLM until I learned how to do it from a business perspective, instead of hype.
